Ted E. Bear's Transatlantic Tour

March 2001

I met a descendent of Lord Baden-Powell while attending RAF Feltwell Pack 404's Blue & Gold Banguet. They invited local British Scouts and one of the scouts was a descendant of BP. I had my picture taken with him. The British Scouts gave me a scarf. I got to see a 'bridging'of Webelos Scouts to Boy Scouts. That was a very special event. I also went to the Mayflower District Recognition Dinner and met alot of Scout volunteers they were really nice people. Mr. Cozzone, the passed out "thank you"s. and did funny cheers.

April 2001

I just got back from Switzerland and France. Patch given to Ted E.Bear from Pack 112I had a really fun time in Bern, Switzerland with Pack 163. Deborah Ott, my hostess, isa school teacher. I met many other kids besides Cub Scouts. They gave me a 'woggle' (or slide) for my scarf. In Paris, I attended Pack 112's Blue & Gold. While at dinner I took a whirlwind tour of the ancient city. From the Tour de Effiel (Effiel Tower) to the L' Arc de Triomphe (Archof Triumph), I tasted neat foods like croissants and cheeses. The Pack presented me with a very special patch. The Pack creatd it to help learn about their home away from the United States. I know I'm learning a lotabout the places I visit.

May 2001

On April 17, 2001, I arrived in Brussels, Belgium and met the Williams'. I visited Pack 457's meeting and had my picture taken with the boys in front of the school. The next night, I went to a science fair. I helped with a few of the experiments, learned how to make a human size bubble, watched kids ride on a home-made hovercraft, and saw several volcanoes erupt. Friday night, I went to the home of the U.S. Ambassador to Belgium. After the party, I stood guard with a Marine. What fun! I just love meeting people. Marines are cool.

Next came the Netherlands (also called "Holland"), a country of 16 million (people from here are called "Dutch"). My hosts were one Webelos Scout and one Boy Scout (First Class). We celebrated Queen Beatrix's Birthday (Monday, April 30th,) We went to town to hear the Burgermeester (Mayor) speak, and listen to different types of music. Everything was colored orange because the Queen is from the House of Orange. My Webelos Host got me a pair of traditional wooden shoes. The Dutch to wear them because the ground here is really muddy.

I then went to the TAC Conference in Willingen, Germany. The Chief Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, Mr.Roy Williams, was there. He was very warm and friendly. I enjoyed meeting everyone and they were very kind to me.  One lady Scouter even kissed me on the nose! I especially liked the "Oompah" Band Friday night. They played traditional polka music.

June 2001

Time to bask in the sun in the Mediterranean Sea. Could you believe it there are Cub Scouts here? I got to see my very first Submarine. The water is so Blue here. I had to take my coat off and go for a swim. (Not, my fur coat, it wouldn't be fair to be a bare bear)

July 2001

I had a wonderful time at Summer Day Camp here in Italy. It was held in a park that is in an old volcano crater. We learned cool stuff. There was Arts and Crafts, Games and Sports, and of course BB Guns and Archery ranges. A pictures worth a thousand words so check out these photos.

Steady, Aim, Fire

Aid given first is First Aid

It would help if I had fingers.

Is the fire ready yet?

Sept 2001

From Italy, I went Germany. I missed Akela Camp but made a new friend "Scrubby". Together, we traveled all over Germany. I recieved a few more patches and made many more friends. I even got a second stop at the Scout Shop. In all the world, I think it is one of my favorite places, so many badges, patches and helpful people. I went to school with scouts of Pack 243, Landstuhl Germany. We learned about Drug Abuse Prevention.
