SHOWMAN
Outings/Activities
Scout must do 6 activities from Puppetry, Music, and Drama and then 1 from each (9 total). I doubt you'll
find one outing that does it all. To earn the Showman badge, I'd prefer to see the scout engaged in
all 3 (as opposed to just reading about them). For example,
- They could jointly write a play about a den or other activity, build a cardboard stage, and either put
on this play for the den/patrol using sock, finger, or paper bag puppets or sing a song with the puppets.
[3 Puppet requirements]
- Name 3 American composers and famous song by each, jointly sing the 3 songs inside and out, and
explain what they had to do differently. [2 Music requirements]
- Make a list of stage directions and tell what they mean. Write a one-play incorporating the stage
directions and perform it for the den/patrol or at a Pack meeting. [2 Drama requirements]
This would take care of 7 of the 9 requirements. Then I'd try to wait and work in attending a play
and/or symphony intended for young adults. Alternatively, pick any 2 lesser requirements as fillers.
- Went to children's program at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall to see the
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (Baltimore, MD). [C. Cover, Pack 899].
